Rawi Warin Resort and Spa

By Christopher East, October 10, 2009

Rawi-Warin-LogoToday we can announce our first “local” client. Having lived on Koh Lanta for nearly 7 years, now, we never got round to doing much corporate work on the island (it’s always far more fun traveling off to far flung places in the furthest corners of SE Asia…) But when the phone rang and we got called in for a “chat” we couldn’t say “no”. This shoot will be in two sections – with part one coming up immediately (before we go Raja Ampat) and when we come back we’ll finish things off with some more aerial footage and other shots of the resort in the full swing of high season.

Roving in Raja Ampat

By Christopher East, September 27, 2009

logo_oceanroverIt’s that time again – our third promo gig for Ocean Rover but this one is very different. Ocean Rover’s new owners have asked us to join them in November for 3 trips in and around one of the last untouched locations on earth – Raja Ampat. This mecca of diving, off the western coast of Irian Jaya, is renowned for only recently turning up an astounding number of previously unknown species, from various new types of frogfish to the strange and elusive “walking shark”. Known for it’s bio-diversity and ability to surprise even the most experienced of marine biologist this will be the trip to remember… A location as stunning above the water,on land, as it is below – this will be a video that will give us the chance to show off some of the latest post production tricks that we’ve mastered with the aim of creating an underwater video with a difference…. watch this space for more info in the new year…

Death in postproduction

By Christopher East, August 27, 2009

crash-comp1080It’s truly incredible what is achievable with a computer nowadays. This is a short public safety advert that will shortly be broadcast through numerous different media – with the aim of trying to cut down on the number of accidents that occur on Thai roads every year. With one of the world’s highest figures for death per capita, Thailand is definitely a dangerous place to drive. Tourists seem to leave their brain on the plane and forget lots of the simplest things that they learn (and are forced to do) at home. We frequently see parents on holiday, with their kids on their bikes – neither of them wearing a helmet(!)… strange behaviour to say the least… People forget that, though they might be a great driver, plenty of people on the roads are not competent. Many people in Asia don’t even have a driving license – and many others simply “bought” there license under the table(!)… with our post production techniques, we are starting to have real fun making people think… check out the clip here

1250 fps from a Sony FX1!

By Christopher East, August 27, 2009

Academy Award winning software creators, Re:Vision FX, created some incredible software called Twixtor (I’m only just getting to grips with the intricacies of it!) – without this software, this clip wouldn’t have been possible. Twixtor enables the user to take footage and slow it down to a level that your every day NLE just simply can’t do. Hopefully, in future, we’ll get some footage of a breaching marine animal and be able to take it down to some super slow motion also.

Steadi on there…

try setting up the dolly on this muddy surface - or don't, just get the SteadiCam out

In 1976, film Director - John G. Avildsen – was looking for a means to capture a major sequence in his latest movie where he wished to closely follow his star as he was sprinting up a flight of steps in Philadelphia… He had recently heard of a brand new piece of hardware which had been put through its paces in a movie, “Bound for Glory” and contacted the creator of the hardware in order to involve him in his shoot. The movie in question was Rocky and Garret Brown was the cameraman who had created the now world-famous Steadicam. It is with great pleasure that WaterWorks have managed to eventually add a Steadicam to our comprehensive list of Hollywood hardware – enabling us to get the shots that were previously limited to Hollywood blockbuster movies.

Asylum Entertainment – A Time Warner Company

By Christopher East, June 27, 2009

tvtrip logoThis was a call we never expected: Asylum Entertainment have asked us to interview a man who had his thumb bitten off by a moray eel. Not only did this man lose his thumb to a hungry moray, but when the doctors heard of his plight they offered to remove one of his toes and graft it onto his hand as a replacement. This is going to be a straight interview shoot with us running the interview, audio and camera. Asylum have requested that we shoot outdoors – not quite aware that at this time of year, the wind is blowing strong and the storm clouds gather quickly. Suffice to say, this will be a challenge but we haven’t failed a customer yet and we don’t plan to do so now. UPDATE – project complete… check out the finished video here and then scroll through the media player looking for “Hungry Hungry Eel”.

TVTrip.com

By Christopher East, April 27, 2009

We’ve been asked to help out with a monster project – TVTrip.com want to film every hotel in the world. This one should be fun! Simply turning up and shooting rushes which TVTrip want us to return to them for editing and post. Some may say that this is going to be an easy job – but if comparing a resort in Thailand to a hotel in London, the Thai resort is going to be very challenging. Thai resorts are spread over thousands of square metres, and we have to shoot the whole thing in 4 hours…(!)

Our first fully independent production

By Christopher East, March 27, 2009

swim-banner Our first independent production. Commissioned by Swim.dk, in association with LearnFreestyle.com, we are to team up with Denmark’s no.1 Swimming Coach, Bo Jacobsen, to produce a training DVD, “Learn Freestyle”. The job is to take in all levels of planning, scripting and storyboarding. We will shoot poolside and underwater video to provide in water demonstrations. Bo will present the video straight to cam and we will add supplementary voiceover, soundtrack and graphics to the training sequences. We’ve also been commissioned to shoot still photography on the day – not our usual role but it will be fun all the same. Finally, graphic design will come into play with the packaging design being left to us for the final product. A true turn-key service from A to Z.

The Rock – Unleashed…

By Christopher East, November 27, 2008

In November 2008, Bay of Islands Rock Cruises Ltd. became the latest client to use our services in order to promote their business – an overnight adventure cruise in The Bay of Islands, PaiHia, New Zealand. This was our first job outside of SE Asia and it was a true privilege to have been invited to travel to the furthest corner of the earth to produce it… this was also our first heli-shoot and the footage we were able to acquire from the chopper rounded off the presentation and added that extra sparkle that few promo videos can deliver.
